Bioiberica, an ingredient supplier based in Barcelona, Spain, has introduced a new retail product called Atopivet Collar to address atopic dermatitis in dogs and cats. The collar contains Biosfeen, a sphingolipids ingredient developed by Bioiberica, which is known to enhance filaggrin expression and improve the skin’s barrier function.
According to the company’s press release, the collar releases Bioiberica’s biologically derived skin health ingredients directly onto the pet’s skin, allowing them to spread across the body through the skin’s lipids. This collar is being touted as a “world first” because it offers pet owners an alternative to the traditional topical and oral treatments typically used for atopic dermatitis. The collar is claimed to be more convenient to use than other applications.
Sergi Segarra, Bioiberica’s R&D project manager for animal health, explained that the Atopivet Collar is designed to assist with the cyclical nature of atopic dermatitis and help reduce flare-ups. It may take one to two months for the collar to show its effects.
The Atopivet Collar is lavender-scented and waterproof. Jordi Flores Garcia, Bioiberica’s marketing director for the companion-animal division, stated that they recognized the need for a practical and noninvasive solution that provides pet owners with the freedom to choose an accessible and effective alternative to traditional oils, creams, and tablets. Although the collar format is a new and innovative approach to supporting pets’ skin health, the efficacy of the ingredients used in it, particularly for conditions like atopic dermatitis, has already been demonstrated, giving assurance to veterinarians and pet owners alike.
At present, the Atopivet Collar is available in the United States and Spain, with plans for a future launch in Europe.
